His Majesty King Hamad

Iran interference in GCC ‘unacceptable’

Doha, March 27, 2013

Iran’s interference in the GCC countries' internal affairs, threatening international sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and harbouring terror cells was an unacceptable violation, said Bahrain’s His Majesty King Hamad.

The vilolation contravenes the principles of good neighbourliness, fuels tensions and destabilises the region, His Majesty King Hamad was quoted as saying in our sister publication the Gulf Daily News.

Addressing the 24th Arab Summit in Doha, he also rapped Iran's continued occupation of three UAE islands.

He affirmed the GCC-led efforts to promote relations with Iran on the basis of good neighbourliness, respect of all countries' sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference.

His Majesty called for a new approach to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

He blamed Israel for derailing the Mideast peace process by adopting unyielding policies and rejecting all international resolutions.

He urged co-ordination with the global community to promote peace on the basis of international law and the Arab Initiative launched in 2002 in Beirut.

He stressed the importance of commitment to land-for-peace principle, which requires Israel to withdraw to the 1967 pre-war borders and halt settlement construction in the occupied Palestinian territories.

He urged a settlement of the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution which stipulates the establishment of an independent and viable Arab state alongside Israel, with Jerusalem as its capital.

He stressed the need to promote the role of the Arab League in Syria to halt violence and put an end to the bloodshed.

He also highlighted the need to protect Syria's territorial integrity and unity and stave off any dangerous spillover of the crisis.

The King urged new mechanisms to promote pan-Arab work, activate the Arab League Charter and bolster political, economic and social co-operation.

He called for a joint strategy to bolster Arab solidarity to confront security challenges. – TradeArabia News Service
