Bahrain has vowed to eradicate all forms of violence and discrimination against women, highlighting the ongoing efforts to empower them in political, economic and social fields.

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and the Shura Council issued a key statement, said a report in our sister publication, the Gulf Daily News.

It is in line with a constant interest in the issues of Bahraini women and support for their role as equal and effective partners in development, at the same time promoting family security and stability, the Shura Council said.

It praised Bahraini women's strides during His Majesty King Hamad's era and the prestigious status they enjoy in all fields.

It commended the efforts of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty and president of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), to promote Bahraini women's role in society.

The council also said that while Bahraini women enjoy freedom and equality, many across the world are still struggling to earn their basic rights.

The SCW, meanwhile, called for the need to strengthen the role of social networking systems to combat family violence and unify efforts in this regard.

Its secretary-general Hala Al Ansari said combating violence against women has been the organisation's top priority since its inception. – TradeArabia News Service
