Muscat, December 9, 2012

Oman's telecom services operator Nawras, said it has successfully installed a fibre optic connectivity solution at the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) to provide voice and high speed internet across the entire new campus.

The new voice installation uses SIP Trunk (Session Initiation Protocol), a service uniquely offered by Nawras in Oman giving customers access to significantly more voice channels than currently available through legacy systems, said Nawras, a Qatar Telecom company.

In addition, it provides capacity for growth to match future expansion. The use of a Nawras Internet Enterprise (NIE) gives an uninterrupted and secured internet connection to handle data requirements, it added.

Vikash Vardhan Sharma, a key account manager at Nawras Business, said, “This was an exciting project for Nawras that required innovative solutions for the new university campus as it is situated two kilometres across rough terrain from the nearest fibre ring. "

"We installed a dedicated connection from the ring to the university which will ensure fast and uninterrupted internet access as well as accommodate unlimited additional lines. This future proofs the campus, as a vital part of the university’s communications network," he added.

Jiji Tom Verghese, the head of IT departmentat GUtech, said, “We are incredibly excited to have Nawras as our communications provider. The product designed and delivered will benefit both existing and future students as we continue to grow as a university with a diverse range of courses to meet current trends and interests in the academic realm.”

GUtech, located in the Halban area of Oman, offers a range of post-secondary courses. The new fibre optic connection will serve over 800 students and faculty across the campus by delivering the latest technology to meet their growing communications requirements.-TradeArabia News Service
