New steps to ease causeway crisis

Manama, August 2, 2013

New procedures for trucks crossing the King Fahad Causeway from Bahrain were approved during a high-level meeting yesterday, as part of efforts to tackle lengthy delays on the congested border crossing.

Government land in Al Jasra was also earmarked for a new truck stop for vehicles travelling from the Hidd Industrial Area to Saudi Arabia, said a report in the Gulf Daily News.

The plot, measuring approximately 20,000 sq m, will accommodate 120 trucks and will include offices for all relevant government bodies.

Designs are now being finalised by the Works Ministry.

Those attending the meeting included Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of State for Electricity and Water Affairs Dr Abdulhussain Mirza, Works Minister Essam Khalaf, Customs chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and top government officials. - TradeArabia News Service
