Arab Potash completes 2012 CSR commitments

Amman, January 2, 2013

Arab Potash Company (APC) has announced that it has concluded its corporate social responsibility (CSR) budget commitments for 2012, which amounted to JD10 million ($14.07 million), in addition to a JD7 million grant for retirees.

“This budget reflects APC's commitment to fulfilling its national responsibility of supporting local development projects that raise living standards and upgrade services provided to citizens across a number of sectors with the overall aim of achieving sustainable development,” said Jamal Al Sarayrah, chairman of the board of directors, APC.

“APC coordinates regularly with local communities in order to effectively target its support in accordance with their needs and priorities.”

The various allocations under the CSR budget were based on priorities identified in coordination with local authorities and civil society institutions, a statement from the company said. This included support for water and sanitation projects, construction of public facilities, health services, professional and labor associations, charity organizations, Al Khair Campaign, clubs and sports federations, municipalities, the maintenance of mosques and churches, media and literary activities, pockets of poverty, student grants, and schools and universities.

These programs have benefitted over 2,000 organisations and around 100,000 citizens. In addition, the JD7 million grant to APC retirees benefitted around 1,400 employees, the statement said.

“At APC, we consider supporting the citizens and institutions of our country as a duty and a commitment that we fulfill with pride. We work to promote the importance of giving as a means of achieving social cohesion,” Al Sarayrah said. – TradeArabia News Service
