Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), the authority charged with regulating, coordinating and supervising the maritime sector, has completed a traffic separation scheme (TSS) that will ensure the safe movement of vessels between common ports.

Jointly established by DP World (DPW) and Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), the TSS is a traffic-management route that regulates traffic, in line with international best practices based on the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regarding the adoption of best practices within sea lanes.

DP World and Abu Dhabi Ports Company will intensify joint efforts to ensure the smooth movement of vessels between Abu Dhabi and Dubai ports, according to the mutual cooperation.

Sultan Bin Sulayem, chairman of ports, customs and free zone corporation, said: “This initiative is essential to strengthen maritime traffic management in the UAE. It will also contribute towards our continuing efforts to improve the quality of marine services offered in the country.”

Captain Mohammad Al Shamsi, executive vice-president, Abu Dhabi Ports Company and chairman, Abu Dhabi Terminals, said: "The initiative involves the support of key government and private sector institutions to ensure successful implementation.”
