Ansell, a global leader in protection solutions, will showcase various innovative products in hand protection for healthcare professionals at Arab Health 2013, the largest healthcare exhibition in the Middle East.

Arab Health 2013 is running from January 28 to 31 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Gammex non-latex accelerator-free sensitive glove with Sensoprene is 30 per cent thinner than standard synthetic surgical gloves and delivers an unprecedented level of sensitivity combined with strength, resistance and advanced allergy protection, he added.

The Gammex powder-free glove with AMT antimicrobial technology is the first solution to protect surgical staff against microbial transmission due to intraoperative glove breaches. Both technologies are proof points of the ongoing commitment of Ansell to develop clinically relevant products in anticipation of healthcare workers’ needs.

Gammex gloves combine superior sensitivity, glove strength and grip with type I and IV allergy prevention.

Allergic reactions to latex proteins (type I allergies) and chemical accelerators (type IV allergies) in gloves are a key issue among healthcare workers. While type I allergies make up 17 per cent of glove-related reactions, 33 per cent are chemical allergies.

This is a result of a skin hypersensitivity called contact dermatitis from regular exposure to chemicals used in glove manufacturing. Often, healthcare workers who use gloves that are latex- and accelerator-free have to make compromises in glove thickness and thus sensitivity. Ansell has solved this issue providing unparalleled strength, resistance, grip and allergy protection, a company statement said.

Gammex is the first surgical glove to incorporate its own immune system to further protect surgical healthcare workers against viruses and bacteria in the event of a breach during surgery.

One in three gloves are perforated during surgical procedures, potentially exposing healthcare providers to pathogens such as HIV or hepatitis C and drug-resistant bacteria, the statement said.

The gloves kill more than 99 per cent of a hepatitis C virus surrogate as early as one minute following exposure and 99 per cent of HIV-1 strain Mn2 as early as one minute following exposure (clinical and laboratory tests).
