Businesses to reconsider Bahrainisation rate

Manama, February 6, 2013

The business community has backed plans to reconsider the rate of Bahrainisation in certain sectors to help the nation recover from two years of unrest, a report said.

The stance follows a meeting between the Labour Ministry, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the Labour Market Regulatory Authority, said the Gulf Daily News report.

BCCI first deputy chairman Ibrahim Mohammed Ali Zainal hailed the positive results.

The three sides initially agreed to review the rate of Bahrainisation of beauty parlours, exhibitions and conferences.

The lifeline targeted trade sectors which were badly hit by the recent crisis.

Zainal stressed the importance of alleviating the Bahrainisation scheme in key trade, industrial and tertiary sectors.

He urged a calculated and realistic scheme which takes into account volatile market trends, stressing businessmen's need for foreign expertise where there is a lack of native skilled labour.

He pointed out the need to expand the lifeline to include human resources, training, information technologies and telecommunications. – TradeArabia News Service
