University of Bahrain gets Alba donation

Manama, June 18, 2012

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) recently presented the second instalment of BD50,000 ($132,655) to the University of Bahrain (UOB) that will go towards the purchase and installation of eco-friendly LED lights at its Sakhir campus.

The instalment is a part of Alba’s BD150,000 ($397,877) donation to the university which is payable over three years.

The chairman of Alba’s board of directors, Mahmood Hashim Al Kooheji, presented the cheque for to UOB president, Dr Ebrahim Mohammed Janahi. Also present were the university’s vice president for planning & development and professor of applied physics, Dr Waheeb Essa Al Nasser; Alba’s investor & public relations manager, Eline Hilal; and other officials.

“There has already been a positive impact of the LED lights across the campus not only because of their eco-friendly properties but also due to their efficiency in terms of power consumption,” Al Kooheji said.

“As a company that has invested greatly in developing production processes that protect the environment without upsetting the bottom line, it is a matter of pride for Alba to share these values with organisations like UOB. Alba consistent support to the university is also recognition of the crucial role that it plays in achieving the kingdom’s Bahrainisation goals,” he added.

It is estimated that the 40,000 LED lights at the UOB campus are expected to generate overall savings of BD32,000 ($84,880) over 11 years of the lights’ estimated life.

Currently, UOB has more than 100,000 lights and the donation of these eco-friendly LED lights will enable it to contribute towards protecting Bahrain’s environment. – TradeArabia News Service
