Manama, July 17, 2011

Al Salam Bank-Bahrain, a leading Islamic bank in the region, has commenced its summer training programme for university students from various specialisations.

Since the beginning of June, the bank has been receiving intern applications from various local and international university graduates. All requests were shortlisted by the bank’s Human Resources Department and examined to match the criteria set for the selection process.

The process ended with selecting 15 trainees who were divided into two groups. The first group started training in June and will last for two months while the second group, from the University of Bahrain, will start in August and will last for another two months.

“The training programme comes within the bank’s social responsibility objectives and aims at qualifying human resources in the Kingdom and link their theoretical studies with the practical life in the financial institutions in general and in the Islamic banks in particular,” said Muna Al Balushi, head of human resources at Al Salam Bank-Bahrain.

“The summer training programme for this year will include a number of workshops to introduce to the trainees the basic principles of Islamic banking and include: information security systems applications, differences between Islamic and conventional banks, principles and basics of combating money laundering, role of internal audit in the financial institutions and principles of treasury and investments,” she added.

She pointed out that the Human Resources Department has organized a field visit for the trainees to the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) to introduce them to the CBB’s role in regulating the various financial institutions operating in Bahrain, as well as a visit to the Currencies Museum located at the CBB.

She added that the programme will give the trainees the opportunity to work in the various bank departments which are more related to their specializations in order to benefit the most out of their training period.

The number of trainees in the bank’s summer training programme has reached 150 trainees since 2006, a statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
