Yanbu plant to install another desal unit

Jeddah, August 5, 2014

The second unit of the new desalination plant under construction in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, will be installed by the end of the week, Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has said.

The unit was delivered recently by Doosan Global for the desalination and power generation facility of the Yanbu Third Phase project, a report in Arab News said, quoting director general of SWCC Western Coast Muhammad Aed.

The project is believed to be the largest desalination plant in the world.

The new unit is the second of six units to be supplied by the Doosan Global for the Yanbu project that will supply 550,000 cu m of water to the Madinah province when completed. The first unit of the project was installed in May.

While Doosan supplies four units, two units will be manufactured in the Kingdom as part of a technology transfer agreement, said the report.

The third and fourth units will be installed in November while the fifth and sixth units will be installed by the first half of 2016, Aed was quoted as saying by the report.
