Bahrain Airport Company in key airport upgrade

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) has renumbered the aircraft parking stands at the Bahrain International Airport, thus bringing the kingdom’s gateway further in line with international standards and best practices.

BAC, the operator and managing body of the kingdom's airport, said this operation would enhance consistency and align the existing stands with the development of the new passenger terminal building.

The increased number of parking stands will also enable BIA to accommodate the expected surge in air traffic once the new terminal opens, said the statement from BAC.

The operation will see BIA’s current numbering system replaced with a more modern alphanumeric one that helps pilots to differentiate between the Cargo, Middle and Eastern aprons, it added.

BAC chief development and technical officer Abdulla Janahi said: "The renumbering of the aircraft stands is a key component in the overall development of BIA, which will help to improve operational efficiency."

"Moreover, it demonstrates BAC’s continued commitment to international standards and best practices set by governing bodies, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Airports Council International (ACI)," noted Janahi.

"Although the size and location of the aircraft parking stands will remain unchanged, the new numbering system will be more convenient for the growing number of airlines operating out of BIA, especially once the new terminal opens," said the top official.

"One of the AMP’s most important goals is to enhance the overall airport experience, not only for passengers but also for BIA’s commercial partners. The new terminal will be capable of processing 130,000 air traffic movements a year, and we want to ensure every movement is as seamless as possible," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
