Hotel guests in Abu Dhabi top 4.8m in 2017

The numbers of hotel guests in Abu Dhabi surged to 4.88 million in 2017, a growth of 10.1 per cent compared to 2016 while the total hotel proceeds reached Dh5.62 billion ($1.5 billion) at the end of December 2017, a media report said.

The number of hotel establishments in Abu Dhabi, including hotels, resorts and hotel apartments, reached 162 while the number of rooms reached 30,882 at the end of 2017, reported Emirates news agency Wam, citing statistics from the Abu Dhabi Statistics Centre (ADSC).

Hotel rankings range from 1 star to 5 stars while hotel apartment rankings are based on three levels, luxurious, excellent and standard, as per the standards adopted by the Department of Culture and Tourism-Abu Dhabi.

However, hotel prices in Abu Dhabi continued to decline for the second consecutive month, and industry experts believe that this is due to the promotions offered by hotel establishments to encourage domestic and foreign tourism.

The tourism sector in Abu Dhabi is among the country’s key economic sectors and is a leading priority of the local government, as part of its efforts to diversify its income resources and support both the local and national economies.

The information issued today by the Centre also highlighted an increase in the price of hotel amenities by 1.8 per cent in February compared to January, despite an annual decrease of 22.7 per cent.

The price of hotel rooms decreased by 1.4 per cent in February while the price of hotel apartments decreased by 3.6 per cent during the same month. – TradeArabia News Service
