Operations at the new Muscat International Airport have commenced, beginning with the arrival of Oman Air flight WY462 from Najaf in Iraq on Tuesday evening, said a report.
The flight was given a water cannon salute as it taxied on the runway and passengers onboard were given souvenirs to celebrate the occasion, said a report in Muscat Daily.
The new airport has a capacity to handle 20 million passengers annually. Terminals have state-of-the-art facilities while the baggage handling section is fully automated. Several self-service check-in kiosks are also present to aid passengers, the report said.
