Abu Dhabi air passenger numbers top 4.5m

A record 4.56 million passengers used the Abu Dhabi International Airport during the first quarter (Q1) of 2014, as against 3.96 million during the same period last year, reflecting an increase of 15.1 per cent, a report said.

A total of 35,844 aircraft movements were recorded, representing an 11.8 per cent growth compared with 32,062 movements during Q1 2013, said the Zawya report.

The three terminals handled more than 183,000 tonnes of cargo, which 15.8 per cent more than the cargo carried in Q1 2013.

The report indicated that March 2014 witnessed a 15.2 per cent increase in passenger numbers compared to the corresponding period last year, to register 1,584,022 passengers passing through the airport during the month.

Over 30 million passengers are expected to use Abu Dhabi International Airport over the next few years as their origin, destination, or transit point, the report said.
