Dubai’s Covid-led economic transformation in spotlight

Dubai is making considerable headway in planning for future challenges and preparing its economy for the post-Covid era, industry experts said during a recent virtual event hosted by Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
 
The event, held as part of the Dubai Chamber Interview Series, was headlined by Khalfan Juma Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, and attended by 330 participants from 44 countries, including Hamad Buamim, President & CEO of Dubai Chamber, and business leaders representing a wide range of economic sectors.
 
Addressing participants, Belhoul said the Dubai Future Foundation, led by the directives of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, works closely with government and private sectors, international companies and startups, research centres, universities and educational institutions in the UAE and abroad to spread a culture of foresight, and to empower government officials and decision makers with the right tools and skillsets, research driven knowledge and updates on latest global trends, enabling them to make sound decisions and take proactive steps towards the development of their sector; hence contributing to the country’s drive to innovation.
 
Belhoul emphasised that keeping pace with the changes and adapting to the trends imposed by the fourth industrial revolution is a key enabler of Dubai’s diverse economy, an economy that seeks to attracts global talents and empower local ones, create an environment that promotes the testing of innovative and disruptive technologies and design regulations that allow for innovative to take place.
 
For his part, Buamim stressed the importance of open dialogue and close cooperation between public and private sector stakeholders as a key strength for Dubai and factor supporting the emirate’s post-Covid recovery.
 
Dubai Chamber’s President & CEO noted that Dubai currently finds itself in a strong position as various economic activities have already resumed in line with preventative health and safety measures. 
 
The emirate is pushing ahead with new initiatives and strategies designed to fast-track digital transformation and sustainable growth, he explained, adding that such efforts complement existing stimulus packages, which have improved ease of doing business and enhanced economic competitiveness.
