Aluminium Bahrain, the Bahrain-based aluminium smelter, today (January 20) announced that it has successfully achieved Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Performance Certification for its commitment to environmental, social and governance performance.
Alba is the second Gulf-based aluminium smelter to have achieved this certification, which covers both the smelter site as well as the calciner plant, said a statement from the company
Following an independent and rigorous audit process, Alba was successfully certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium, it said.
Alba’s acting chief executive officer Ali Al Baqali said: “Green Aluminium is the future. The ASI Certification is a key milestone in our never-ending sustainability journey and recognises our diligent commitment to produce aluminium responsibly and sustainably.”
“The ASI Certification will give our company a competitive edge as we seek to offer greater and sustainable Value-Added Products as we qualify for new customers with Line 6 metal ramp-up,” he added.
In February 2019, Alba was certified as a production and transformation member of the ASI.
The ASI is a global, non-profit standards setting and certification organisation. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain, it stated. – TradeArabia News Service
