DP World Sokhna launches vehicle booking service

DP World Sokhna, part of DP World’s international network in Cairo, Egypt has launched a real time Vehicle Booking System (VBS), used by trucking companies delivering and collecting containers at the port.

VBS enables customers to select the best time for their visits, allowing the terminal to proactively manage customer demand and provide faster turnaround. Every time a trucking company creates a new booking, the system checks and confirms that their details are correct, helping reduce unnecessary trips and costs caused by incorrect information so cutting the number of truck trips to the port. It also helps shipping lines to create and manage their export booking by tracking their daily movements as well as managing the holding and releasing of containers.

Ajay Singh, DP World Sokhna CEO, said: “We provide logistics services to enable the movement of cargo and this system helps make it happen faster and for less. It is more than just a booking service as it is a web-based system for promoting operational efficiency and capacity management, helping us plan more efficiently and manage our activities more accurately. It will also increase productivity, reduce administration costs and improve customer satisfaction.”

The service has been a priority for the DP World Sokhna as it will eliminate the waiting times and complement plans for Gate automation.

The system is the latest in a series of recent initiatives at DP World Sokhna that include a new Customer Service Center as part of an ongoing commitment to develop the sector and increase customer satisfaction. The Center operates round the clock serving all customer-related processes for shipping lines, clearance agents, trucking companies, freight forwarders and cargo owners. – TradeArabia News Service
