Top Abu Dhabi clinic confronts leading health challenges at Arab Health

Physicians from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will share advances in management and treatment of some of the leading health challenges facing the Middle East at Arab Health 2019, taking place in Dubai till January 31.
 
Since opening its doors in 2015, the hospital has recorded a number of landmark healthcare achievements. Designated as an advanced teaching facility by the Department of Health, the hospital aims to become a catalyst for research and education in the region.
 
In total, 22 physicians will participate in six of the exhibition’s conferences, presenting innovative and evidence-based approaches to the prevention, management and treatment of a range of conditions and their complications including cancer and organ failure.
 
“Continued innovation is vital to improving the overall health of our community and the wider region. Minimally invasive surgery has been identified as a top area of innovation in 2019 and we will be focusing on new developments in the field. In addition, a number of my colleagues will present cutting-edge approaches to managing and treating patients,” said Dr Matthew Kroh, chair of the Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
 
In line with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s focus on the needs of the local and regional population, physicians will present advances in areas of medicine that represent some of the largest challenges to public health.
 
Colorectal cancer is the second most common form of the disease in Abu Dhabi according to statistics published by the Department of Health. Dr Aydamir Alrakawi, director of Endoscopy at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, presented an evidence-based update to colorectal cancer screening at the Gastroenterology Conference on January 28.
 
Dr Ricard Corcelles will moderate a panel on obesity management that will discuss current surgical trends and outline the future of bariatric surgery at the Gastroenterology Conference on January 29. The following day, January 30, Dr Matthew Kroh will discuss managing complications in bariatric surgery at the Surgery Conference.
 
Physicians from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will also present their experience of developing the UAE’s first multi-organ transplant program and the UAE’s remarkable progress in the field.
 
On January 28, Dr Antonio Pinna, director of Liver Transplant and Hepatology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, provided a detailed overview at the Gastroenterology Conference of the current progress of living related donor liver transplantation. He will also share his expertise on liver volume modulation in transplant at the Surgery Conference on January 29.
 
Dr Arun Kumar, medical director for Transplant Anesthesiology at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, will present a comprehensive overview of evidence-based strategies that ensure the best possible outcome in liver transplant operations at the Anesthesia Conference on January 31.
 
Dr Haamid Siddique, a physician in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s Critical Care Institute will present on the legal issues surrounding organ transplants in the UAE at the Anesthesia Conference on January 31.
 
“Building on the early success of our comprehensive program, we continue to work closely with our local partners to build a national transplant program that will offer this life-saving treatment to even more patients without the need to travel abroad,” said Dr Siddique.
 
Other topics presented by physicians at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi at the Conferences will include inflammatory bowel disease, emergency medicine, healthcare quality, medical imaging, cancer surgery, and liver disease. - TradeArabia News Service
