NBB starts mentorship programme for Bahrain female students

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) participated in the first 'Women in Technology Career Mentorship' Programme, hosted by University of Bahrain’s College of Information Technology and supported by the Women in Big Data (WiBD), a chapter of an internationally recognised entity based in the US.

The programme, which aims to support female pupils wishing to pursue technology and engineering careers through mentorship opportunities, kicked off with a webinar in December 2021, featuring NBB Group Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer Dana Buheji as the keynote speaker.

Through this programme, the bank aims to create a platform for female students to learn from influential and qualified industry professionals, ensuring future job readiness, it said in a statement.

Buheji said: “NBB believes in supporting Bahrain’s youth and equipping them with the necessary tools to contribute towards the Kingdom’s economic objectives. We are especially committed to empowering females in data, as our employees from various disciplines participate as mentors and share their knowledge and expertise. Through this mentorship we are able to contribute to creating a nationwide ecosystem that nurtures talent and innovation.”

Emphasising the importance of the programme, NBB IT Project Manager and WiBD board member Maryam AlMutawa said: “There is an interest in technology, data and engineering studies amongst Bahraini women, who have a track record of being high educational achievers.

"We are delighted that the programme provides them with a platform to pursue these interests, exposing them to key professionals in the industry. We are confident that they will benefit through this exposure, especially as NBB continues to expand its financial technology operations, and look forward to assisting them in their journey into Big Data careers.”

College of Information Technology - University of Bahrain Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering and Bahrain Chapter Director at WiBD Dr. Hessa Al Junaid added: “This initiative from the University of Bahrain aims to strengthen women's presence in the information technology field across industry and academia within the Kingdom.

"We are delighted that reputable financial companies, such as NBB, are a part of the mentorship programme and are empowering female students to pursue careers in these fields, which are otherwise known to be male-dominant. We look forward to seeing participants learn from NBB’s experts as they transition from students to working professionals.”-TradeArabia News Service
