Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced that it has received bids from three major developer consortiums for the Rayis-Rabigh Independent Water Transmission Pipeline (IWTP) project, which on completion, will boast a 500,000-cu-m-per-day transmission capacity.
A first of its kind project, Rayis-Rabigh IWTP is being developed with the participation of the private sector, to provide Makkah and Madinah regions with clean drinking water by Q1 2026, it stated.
These are developer consortiums led by:
*Spanish utility major Cobra - with Alkhorayef Water and Power Technologies and Orascom Construction as partners.
*Saudi contracting company Nesma with partners (Abdul Aziz Al Ajlan Sons Co. for Commercial & Real Estate Investment and Mutlaq Al Ghowairi Contracting and Buhur for Investment Company) and
*Saudi investment powerhouse Vision Invest (previously known as Acwa Holding) - a joint venture between Al Muhaidib Group and Abdullah Abunayyan Group - with Taqa and GIC as partners.
TradeArabia had earlier reported that 14 developer/developer consortiums had been prequalified by SWPC for the project includingglobal players such as Japan's Marubeni Corporation and Chinese group Harbour Engineering Company.
Some of the major regional players such as Al Fahd Trading Industries & Contracting; Alkhorayef Water & Power Technologies; Mowah; Al Rawaf Trading & Contracting and Mutlaq Al Ghowairi also expressed interest.
The 150-km-long pipeline project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
For the project, Synergy Consulting IFA acted as the lead and financial advisor, while Amer Al Amr Law Firm was the legal advisor and Fichtner GmbH & Co. KG the technical advisor, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
