Global utility developers eyeing key Bahrain power project

Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has announced that it has received bids from four global utility project developers for the transformer and reactor works the construction of a 400kV grid substation in the kingdom's Jasra region. 
 
The big players in the fray are German multinational conglomerate Siemens Energy, Korean industrial giant Hyundai Electric & Energy Systems as well as top Japanese groups Hitachi Energy and Fuji Electric.
 
According to EWA, the transformer and reactor works is one of the project work packages intended to be executed through international limited tender.
 
The scope of work includes the design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning of four units of 400/220/21kV, a 500MVA autotransformer, three units of 400kV, a 100MVAr feeder reactor, and four units of 21kV, 25MVAr transformer tertiary reactors. 
 
It also includes the design, manufacturing, supply, transportation, erection, testing and commissioning of water deluge system for fire protection of transformers, reactors, DG and fuel tank.
 
According to EWA, Hitachi Energy emerged as the lowest bidder with an offer of BD18.7 million ($49.2 million), followed by Hyundai Electric & Energy Systems with BD20.6 million; Fuji Electric with BD21.9 million offer and Siemens Energy (with two options - BD64.8 million and BD19.7 million).
 
Earlier, EWA had received the bidders proposals for 400kV underground cable works.-TradeArabia News Service
