DMCC picks Sherwin-Williams' solutions for Jumeirah tower

DMCC, one of the world's premium free zones, has signed an agreement roped in Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings to deploy its specialist coating system at the group's showpiece, Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) development in Dubai.

Owing to the increasing demand from visitors, DMCC, the master developer of JLT, decided to create further  parking space within the premium development.

The company then selected Sherwin-Williams' specialist polyurethane car park deck coating system Resudeck for the 10,000 sq m project.

Resudeck provides the flexibility to bridge dynamic cracking which can be caused by high density traffic as opposed to other hybrid systems which are often rigid and brittle and prone to failure, said a statement from Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings.

The highest level of durability with flexibility comes from a formulation using a both a polyurethane top coat and a polyurethane primer. Other hybrid systems which have epoxy primers do not provide resistance against cyclical movement and deflection in the slabs or decks of the car parking areas caused by the sheer volumes of traffic, it added.

The tailored formulation of Resudeck ID and TD - with a sufficient amount of resin content - was developed by Sherwin-Williams’ scientists to create a finish which can withstand the consistent heavy usage of traffic over the car park areas whilst being solvent-free and waterproof.

With a high aesthetic finish in specially formulated grey and red to match existing areas, Resudeck’s anti-slip surface also ensures a safe, bright environment for visitors underfoot with minimal tyre squeal with high chemical resistance enabling it to withstand petrol, diesel or brake fluid spillages, said the statement.

Benefits also include lifetime cost savings for the operators of JLT who have the reassurance that the car park areas will continue to provide a safe, clean surface for visitors for many years to come, it added.

Vik Vithlani of Sherwin-Williams (Mena) said: "We are proud to be involved in such a prestige project. Working with the asset owners, we have found a solution for the longer term given the nature and scale of the development in an environment of such high traffic use."

Ian Graham, the managing director of Pegasus Contracting Company, the Sherwin-Williams' approved applicator for JLT, said: "We have a close working relationship with the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre and together with Sherwin-Williams we were able to deliver the solution to a rigorous challenge."

The spectacular 730,000-sq-m JLT development consists of 80 towers along the edges of three artificial lakes, Lake Almas West, Lake Almas East, JLT Lake as well as the JLT Embankment of eight towers facing Jumeirah Islands.

The towers range from 35-45 floors in each except for the centrepiece Almas Tower which is 66 floors, situated on its own island between Lake Almas West and Lake Almas East, said the statement.

JLT boasts five hotels, two universities, 68 commercial and residential towers, parks and running tracks and more than 540 retail outlets with over 300 restaurants and cafés, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
