The Bahrain Association of Banks (BAB) is organising a grand celebration on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment the banking sector in the kingdom.

Held under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the celebration will take place in front of the main entrance of Bahrain Financial Harbour, in the presence of senior officials and leaders from the financial and banking sector next Tuesday.

A monument embodying the history and heritage of the Bahraini banking sector will be unveiled during the celebration.

BAB has constructed this monument particularly for this occasion and positioned it prominently in front of the Bahrain Financial Harbour.

Adnan Ahmed Yousif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BAB, said the Prime Minister’s support represents once again the pioneering role he has played in building this sector, which achieved superiority and leadership at the regional level from the 1970s.

“BAB affirms its keenness to celebrate this grand occasion in a manner that befits the status and reputation of the banking sector in Bahrain. We are thankful to all partners who have worked with the Association ever since the announcement of the ceremony was made in April 2019. The partners include the Bureau of HH The Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central Bank of Bahrain, the Economic Development Board, Standard Chartered Bank, and Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) and National Bank of Bahrain (NBB), the two main supporters of the ceremony, and other partners from the economic, banking and financial sector,” he said.

BAB has also made special souvenirs for this occasion, in addition to the erection of the memorial monument.”

“BAB, in cooperation with its partners, has undertaken all necessary preparations to ensure the success of this grand celebration while adhering to the precautionary measures required in light of the current Covid-19 pandemic. A limited number of senior guests will actually attend the venue of the celebration, while the presentation, honouring and other ceremonies will take place remotely,” Dr Al Qassim added.

The celebration reflects BAB’s keenness to promote the banking sector, which has so far performed a significant role in supporting the economy and the process of national development. The sector also aided in consolidating Bahrain’s position as the hub for about 385 financial and banking institutions from various parts of the world. -- Tradearabia News Service
