Al Murjan awards MEP works contract for Jeddah mixed-use project

JEDDAH, November 27, 2022

Al Murjan Group has awarded a SR600 million ($160 million) contract to Saudi-based Al Sharq Construction Company (Weavers) Limited for carrying out electromechanical works and as well as completion of external facades of buildings at a key mixed-use development, Delta Complex, in Jeddah.

A major landmark spanning 27,000 sq m area in the Saudi city, it includes four components - Delta Marriott Hotel (featuring 181 rooms and 25 suites); Marriott Hotel Apartments Building (consisting of eight floors boasting 100 hotel apartments); an administrative building as well as a 3,000-sq-m  events hall with a capacity to accommodate 1,500 people.

Al Murjan Group said this was the last phase of the Delta project being developed at a total cost of SR1.2 billion. As per the agreement, the project's completion period is set for end of 2024.

The agreement comes in line with the group's ambitious expansion plans. It has already sealed agreements with Marriott International pertaining to these two projects, it stated.

Group CEO Engineer Taufiq Bahamdain said the Delta multiplex complex, which boasts a built-up area of 124,000 sq m, is set to become a major landmark in Jeddah, on completion.

It's strategically located in a prime location at the intersection of King Abdulaziz Road and Al Salam Road, southwest of the Globe Roundabout.

On its other major developments, Bahamdain said: "At present, we have two commercial projects in Riyadh, one of which is located on Al Takhassusi Street, and the other on King Abdullah Road. The volume of investments in these projects amounts to about SR200 million."

"These are an extension of previous projects in the city of Riyadh, such as the Al Murjanah Residential Complex in the Hittin neighborhood, featuring 51 housing units," he added.

On the hospitality front, Al Murjan Group said it had recently opened the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel, overlooking the southern Obhur Corniche in the kingdom.

Buoyed by its success, the group is exploring the prospect of setting up a range of hospitality projects in Jeddah as well as other Saudi cities.

It already has presence in Makkah through its Blue Coral Hotel featuring 300 rooms and suites that is catering to the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
