The Diriyah Gate Development Authority (DGDA) reached new milestones in its bid to develop destination that attracts popular, high-quality international events as Diriyah played host to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The hosting of the annual motorsport championship was in line with DGDA’s ambitious strategy to transform Diriyah into a world-class global destination and was part of Saudi Arabia’s plans to bring international sporting events to the Kingdom, which are among the key objectives of Vision 2030.

The Authority’s efforts to bring the Diriyah E-Prix to life came to fruition thanks to the extensive support it received from the visionary leadership and the government of the Kingdom, especially the Ministry of Sport.

The global electric street racing event brought together fans and motorsport enthusiasts alike, perfectly aligning with DGDA’s plans to transform Diriyah into one of the world’s greatest gathering places. The historic town is envisioned to become an unequalled destination celebrating over three centuries of history that embodies the rich heritage of Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, all of which is dressed in the renowned traditional Najdi architecture.

Known as the ‘Jewel of the Kingdom’, Diriyah holds a prominent place in the nation’s history and its people’s hearts as the capital of the First Saudi State and has been designated the ‘Capital of Arab Culture’ for 2030. Local and international visitors will experience the unique blending of authentic Saudi culture and heritage with modern urban lifestyles.

The Diriyah Gate project includes the development of a variety of tourist and entertainment destinations, and will feature more than 20 hotels, several museums, international shopping brands, and more than 100 international restaurants, as well as open spaces with distinctive designs and scenic views.

It is also home of a three-kilometre promenade overlooking the historic Wadi Hanifah, which constitutes wide-ranging heritage, cultural, and sports attractions. The destinations are designed to provide unmatched leisure, entertainment, business and investment opportunities.

Diriyah's growing prominence and its broad-ranging destination development and management efforts has added significant value to the Formula E races.
