UAE hotels record strong demand growth in November

LONDON, December 12, 2019

The UAE's hospitality sector recorded strong demand growth and lower rates consistent with significant supply during the month of November, according to STR's preliminary data for the month.

Based on daily data from December, hotels in the UAE saw demand increase 8.9 per cent in November, however, average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) were low for the month, down 9.3 per cent to Dh610.19 ($166) and 9.2 per cent to Dh515.01 ($140), owing to supply growth, which grew at roughly the same pace as demand, at 8.8 per cent.

STR analysts note that the current competitive environment continues to place pressure on hoteliers to keep ADR in line with year-to-date trends.

Of note, RevPAR growth reached double-digits during the first three days of the Dubai Airshow (November 17-21). That came even with performance comparisons affected by an off year for the biennial Helishow.

Occupancy for the month of November rose ever so slightly at 0.1 per cent to 84.4 per cent. - TradeArabia News Service
