Taj Dubai’s director of engineering gets top recognition

DUBAI, June 25, 2019

Naved Shaikh, director of engineering at Taj Dubai, was named the Sustainability Champion at the Dubai Sustainable Tourism awards, organised by The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) on June 18.

The annual awards recognise those companies and individuals within the tourism sector that have demonstrated good practices when it comes to reducing a company’s carbon footprint, in efforts to promote sustainability in the tourism industry.

In line with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for Dubai as a sustainable city, the Dubai Sustainable Tourism Awards set the foundation for Dubai’s tourism industry to work cooperatively to achieve better sustainability practices. Shaikh, who has headed up Taj Dubai’s continued efforts to reduce waste and energy, whilst increasing the hotel's sustainability, was honoured with the prestigious Sustainability Champion Award, which is presented to industry leaders that have strongly impacted the sustainability of the tourism industry in Dubai.

On receiving the award, Shaikh said: “I am extremely proud to have been recognised for such a prestigious award. The work that DTCM is doing is encouraging many positive changes in the industry and I am glad to be a part of it. I am passionate about sustainability and ensuring that Taj Dubai offers a world-class stay experience, whilst continuing to reduce our environmental impact.” - TradeArabia News Service
