Ajman tourism revenues exceed $124m

The tourism sector in Ajman saw remarkable growth last year, with revenues reaching Dh458 million ($124.6 million), an increase of 12 per cent compared to Dh411 million ($111.8 million) in 2016.

According to statistics released by the Ajman travel department, the number of local hotels also rose to 39, which included 3,654 rooms with a total of 6,079 beds.

The emirate received a total of 544,447 tourists in 2017, and the number of room nights of these tourists reached 872,434, compared to 835,331 in 2016 - an increase of 4 per cent.

Ajman’s resorts witnessed an increase in their occupancy rate by 82 per cent in 2017 while the number of visitors to Ajman’s museums rose by 19 per cent during the same year.

The number of hotel nights spent by visitors and tourists last year reached 1,418,053, compared to 1,278,966 in the previous, an increase of 10 per cent. Germany emerged as one of the fastest growing tourism markets for Ajman, which recorded a 27 per cent increase in the total number of residency nights of German tourists.

As part of the department’s efforts to strengthen its bilateral relations with major international tourism agencies, it is participating in ITB Berlin, the largest commercial travel and tourism exhibition in the world, which is being held from March 7 and 11 in Germany. - TradeArabia News Service
