Turkish Airlines passenger numbers up 9.3pc in 2017

ISTANBUL, January 16, 2018

State carrier Turkish Airlines said on Tuesday that its passenger numbers rose 9.3 per cent compared to figures recorded in 2016, reaching 68.6 million passengers for the year.

According to a statement released by the carrier, the 2017 load factor reached 79.1 per cent compared to the previous year, an increase of 4.7 points. The airline also reached its highest December load factor rate with 79.5 per cent in the last month of 2017 in its history.

According to the airline, December 2017 traffic indicated that total load factor improved by 5.1 points to 79.7 per cent with an increase of 8.9 per cent in Available Seat Kilometer, while international load factor increased by 5 points to 79.2% per cent.

Domestic and International flights have reached the highest load factor of Turkish Airlines history.

Double-digit growth in demand (revenue per kilometer) that commenced in July, kept on with 16.3 per cent demand growth.

Total number of passengers carried in December went up by 21.4 per cent reaching 5.5 million passengers. Excluding international-to-international transfer passengers (transit passengers), number of international passengers for the last month of 2017 went up by 39 per cent. - TradeArabia News Service
