Germany popular among GCC visitors

DUBAI, February 8, 2016

Germany registered a record 2 million overnight stays from GCC visitors in 2015, according to results released by the German National Tourist Office, making it a popular holiday destination for the Gulf region.

United Arab Emirates (45 per cent) represented the majority of the GCC visitor numbers to the European country, followed by Saudi Arabia (39 per cent) and Kuwait (16 per cent). The average spend for the GCC traveller is €4,344/trip ($4,844.9/trip), based on 2014 statistics.

Charting out an ambitious plan for the year ahead, the German National Tourist Office today announced the theme for its promotional activities, titled “Holidays in the heart of nature in Germany”, in a press conference held by the office in Dubai.

The new theme comes to complement the multi themes adopted by the office’s promotional activities, including medical tourism, smart luxury, shopping, and others. The theme will focus on the beautiful nature and natural experiences awaiting visitors of the country, with a special focus on accessible natural wonders, such as national parks, and protected biosphere reserves, all available in abundance and uniqueness in Germany.

Commenting on the subject, Maria Amaral, director of the marketing and sales office of the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) in the Gulf region, said: “The office is expanding its themes, which plays an important role in its promotional campaigns.”

“Looking at statistics, we noticed that about 37 per cent of our international tourists look for land scape and scenery when booking Germany, which we saw as a great opportunity to promote to visitors this years. Around 48 per cent of Germany’s land area is protected landscape, placing it second in global comparison to Slovenia. In total, we have 130 protected national landscape and out of this, 15 are national parks, 100 are nature parks and 15 UNESCO Biosphere reserves. Moreover, one-third of Germany’s total land area is woodland.”

“This year’s theme focuses on a new aspect of the German tourism sector, and capitalises on the wealth of natural beauty and exclusive experiences the country can offer. We are confident that the offerings that we will focus on will attract yet more visitors from the Gulf region, especially those who love nature and exploration,” she said. – TradeArabia News Service
