Oman hotel revenues drop 1.5pc in May

MUSCAT, August 3, 2015

Hotel revenues of Oman's three- to five-star hotels reached RO87.3 million ($225.9 million) in May, logging a 1.5-per cent drop compared to RO88.6 million ($229.4 million) recorded in the same period last year, said a report.

Meanwhile, guest numbers at Oman’s three- to five star hotels reached 499,464 at the end of May, slipping 3.3 per cent compared to 516,962 guests recorded in May 2014, said a report in Oman Daily Observer.

The occupancy rate also dipped 7.3 per cent as it reached 62.7 per cent compared to 67.7 per cent during the same period of 2014, Statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicated.

Europeans topped the list of hotel guests during May with an increase rate of 36.1 per cent to reach 180,616 guests compared to 161,081 recorded during February 2014.

They were followed by Omani guests whose number reached 149,403 compared to 159,638 guests recorded during May 2014. Guests from Asia came third on the list by recording 59,722 till the end of May. They were followed by the Gulf guests who reached 45,745. The other Arab guests reached 23,615 while the American guests reached 19,570. The hotel guests from Oceania reached 5,313 while the guests from other nationalities reached 12,901, the report said.
