Emirates deploys A380 to handle Eid rush

DUBAI, July 18, 2015

Dubai's national carrier Emirates said it has deployed its super jumbo A380 plane for service across the GCC to handle the rush over the Eid holiday period in the region.

The A380 is renowned for its First Class private suites, shower spas and on-board lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers, a space to socialise or simply relax, said the Dubai carrier in its statement.

Passengers across all cabins will get to enjoy over 2,000 channels on Emirates’ award-winning Digital Widescreen inflight entertainment system, ice and stay connected to the Internet throughout their journey with high speed Wi-Fi access, it added.

The Emirates A380 touched down in Bahrain International Airport and Hamad International Airport in Doha this weekend for one-off services, said the UAE airline in a statement.

The special A380 flights were at full capacity, supporting the sizable traffic over the Eid Holiday period from both countries. This marked the first ever scheduled service of an Emirates A380 to Qatar, it stated.

However, this was the third time the Emirates A380 had landed in Bahrain.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, the divisional senior Vice President (Commercial Operations Centre) said: "Emirates is currently operating a one-off ad-hoc Airbus A380 services to Bahrain and Doha due to significant demand for air travel during the Eid Holiday period."

"Although we have no immediate plans to operate an A380 on those routes in the near future, we remain committed to providing customers in Bahrain and Qatar with seamless connectivity to the Far East, North America, Europe and the Middle East through our Dubai hub," noted Al Mualla.

"The signature Emirates A380 service is fundamental to our overall strategy, and bringing this popular aircraft to both destinations represents significant milestones in our operations," he added.

Emirates, which serves the Qatari capital with seven daily services, has till now flown more than 430,000 passengers on Dubai-Doha sector starting from January this year.

In its first seven months of operations for 2015, Emirates carried over 225,000 passengers to and from Bahrain, and serves the destination with 28 weekly services.

Welcoming the jumbo flight, Mohamed Khalil, the chief commercial officer of Bahrain Airport Company, said: "The arrival of the aircraft for the third time further strengthens the relationship between Bahrain International Airport and Emirates."

"Our main mission is to attract regional and international airlines and position Bahrain as a preferred world-class aviation hub," he added.
