Bahrain airport modernisation plans reviewed

MANAMA, April 19, 2015

Bahrain's ambitious airport modernisation programme (AMP) was reviewed at a meeting chaired by Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Kamal Ahmed.

The steering committee for the AMP held its regular progress meeting where latest project developments, next steps and anticipated milestones were discussed, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The agenda included a run-through of the project's design and construction progress, latest updates on procurement, discussions on funding and cash flow matters, an overview of the overall project programme and general co-ordination with the involved government agencies.

The AMP is an ambitious project designed to elevate the airport's infrastructure, facilities and services and increase handling capacity, boosting regional competitiveness of Bahrain International Airport as a result.

Once completed, the passenger terminal will provide increased commercial and retail opportunities for business, enhanced facilities for cargo and will create ample employment opportunities for local workforce.

The meeting was attended by senior representatives from Civil Aviation Affairs, Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning Affairs Ministry, Interior Ministry, Electricity and Water Authority, Bahrain Airport Company as well as senior management officials from Aeroports de Paris Ingerierie, the design and engineering consultant for the AMP, and Hill International, the project management consultancy firm. – TradeArabia News Service
