Dubai airport ... catering to 71m passengers.

Dubai 'now busiest airport in the world'

DUBAI, January 14, 2015

Dubai International Airport is now the world's busiest airport for international passengers, the airport's chief executive has been qutoed as saying.

About 71 million international passengers passed through Dubai International in 2014, according to Paul Griffiths, surpassing the 68.1 million recorded by London Heathrow, a report in Financial Times said. (http://www.ft.com)

“Heathrow is losing a lot of traffic to Dubai because we’re able to cater for the connections that Heathrow no longer has the capacity to service,” Griffiths said in the report.

However, according to figures released this week, Heathrow dealt with 73.4 million passengers -  a combination of domestic and international travellers - last year, up 1.4 per cent compared with 2013, as additional large aircraft flew into the airport, the report said.

Griffiths said that Dubai would continue to grow strongly, adding it was “highly unlikely the UK will regain number one spot for international passengers”.
