MUSCAT, October 25, 2014

Oman registered solid tourism growth in the first half with more than one million international tourists visiting the country, said a report.

Of this, 387,103 were from the GCC region, the highest number of tourists from the region to date, registering a growth of 10.8 per cent when compared to the same period last year, according to the figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The government of Oman said it has undertaken proactive measures to ensure growth of travel and tourism sector with plans to increase number of international airports along with regional and international chains of hotels and resorts in addition to the development of road, rail and maritime sectors.

The Ministry of Tourism recently organised a road show and several workshops in the UAE, in co-operation with its trade partners from Oman.

Besides presentations by both the Ministry and its travel partner Oman Air that were designed to give a deeper insight about tourism infrastructure and facilities along with attractive offers, several agreements with UAE-based hotels and travel agencies were signed during the event.

The event also complimented Oman’s tourism sector which is aiming to record one of the strongest global growth rate in the coming year.

The move was aimed at reinforcing the joint venture between the Ministry and Oman Air and promoting the Sultanate as the region’s leading tourist destination, said a senior official.

"Because of its diverse geographical features, Oman is an all-year-round tourism destination, making it perfect for GCC tourists to take short-break vacations. Aside from excellent tourism infrastructure and exceptional hospitality sector, the country boasts of world-class airports offering swift connectivity to several cities in the region," remarked Salim Al Mamari, the director general of tourism promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism.

We organised the road show and workshops in the UAE aiming to reach out to the maximum number of people to further promote Oman as a popular tourist destination for Emaratis.

Apart from offering attractive travel package with our partner Oman Air, we have also signed agreements with local travel agents to provide cost-effective yet wholesome tourist packages to potential visitors," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
