Gulf Air wins key IT quality certification

Bahrain's nationaal carrier Gulf Air has become the first airline in the region to be awarded with the Information Technology International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) certifications in quality, service and information security management systems.

This follow a comprehensive internal and external audit conducted by RINA Services, a classification society, said a statement from the airline.

Gulf Air now has the ISO 9001 Certification for Quality Management, the ISO 20000 Certification for Service Management and, for the second year in a row, the ISO 27001 Certification for Information Security Management System.

"Quality, service and security are three of the most important facets of customers' online experience," remarked Gulf Air acting chief executive Maher Salman Al Musallam said.

"We are delighted to achieve yet another 'first' in our IT offering and pleased to be recognised for our team's work in further helping to achieve customer satisfaction," he added.

Gulf Air director (IT) Dr Jassim Haji said these were all essential components in ensuring the airline satisfied its passengers in terms of IT quality, service and security.

"These three ISO certifications are a reflection of the airline's efforts to monitor, measure, control and improve the quality of delivered IT services, apply best practice IT service management with a benchmarked approach to continuously improve our service delivery and, importantly, implement proactive measures to safeguard the integrity, confidentiality and availability of information," explained Dr Haji.

RINA's Middle East Area manager Andrea Di Bella said seeing technology as a key contributor to its sustainable development, Gulf Air has worked to develop an efficient management system tailored to the business processes, to maintain and constantly improve performance.

To date, Gulf Air is one of few regional airlines to hold the global ISO certification for its information security management system.-TradeArabia News Service
