Mubadala firm to offer sharklet retrofit service

Zurich, February 10, 2014

SR Technics, a part of the Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Aerospace MRO network, will be introducing an in-service Sharklet retrofit modification to its aircraft maintenance capabilities starting from next year.

The offering, which is being developed in close collaboration with Airbus, will be offered on Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, said the Zurich-based company in its statement.

SR Technics said it is one of the first MRO providers to offer this new service.

The modification is expected to bring substantial fuel burn savings depending on flight profile compared to legacy A320s and increase the residual asset value for the aircraft. It will also decrease CO2 emissions, thus reducing the environmental impact of the aircraft.

The sharklets maximize efficiency while providing operators daily benefits with the flexibility to increase range or payload capability.

The modification will be offered out of SR Technics’ aircraft maintenance facilities in Malta or Zurich. In order to keep aircraft downtime to a minimum, SR Technics is exploring the option to combine the retrofit with a scheduled base maintenance visit or other modifications.

"SR Technics has a strong global reputation for delivering large scale and complex modifications and for driving innovative solutions that add value to our business partners," stated André Wall, the president at SR Technics.

"It is therefore only natural that we explore and develop new capabilities as customer needs arise. The Sharklet retrofit program is of growing importance to customers as they look to reduce their operational costs, for example through reduced fuel burn," added Wall.-TradeArabia News Service
