BA offers course to fight fear of flying

Dubai, January 23, 2014

British Airways is introducing a unique course in Dubai that helps air passengers overcome their fear of flying.

Previously only offered in the UK and the US, the one day Flying with Confidence course, which has helped more than 45,000 people over the past 25 years, is set to launch in Dubai on February 17.

The day starts with a session from British Airways captain and course organiser, Steve Allright who will explain the technical side of flying, how an aircraft operates and other areas such as turbulence. A specialised counsellor also provides expert advice on relaxation techniques, and how best to deal with anxiety and feelings of panic.

“The UAE is one of the fastest growing airline hubs in the world, and according to the recent study by British Airways, around 75 per cent of UAE respondents have taken a long-haul flight in the last 12 months. With such a large proportion of the population taking to the skies regularly, a fear of flying can have a huge impact on a person’s quality of life,” said Captain Allright.

“The survey also revealed that for UAE residents, the biggest cause of anxiety around flying is concerns about safety, followed by a fear of the unknown, so it is a real pleasure to help people in the Emirates fly with confidence.”

Holding a 98 percent success rate, the course which is run by Captain Allright and his team, is tailored to fit participants regardless of whether they have a mild anxiety about flying, are unable to board an aircraft or develop a sudden debilitating phobia.

Participants can book their place online at flyingwithconfidence.com. The full day course costs Dh2,000 ($544) and can be paid for online.

In addition to tackling their fear of flying, all course participants will qualify for a 10 per cent discount on any British Airways flight, in any cabin class.
