GCC women pilots flying high

Manama, December 1, 2013

Women pilots from across the Gulf and Middle East, including Bahrain, have met to strengthen their growing organisation.

Members of the Arabian section of the 99s International Women Pilots Organisation met in Abu Dhabi last week for their annual gathering, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Female pilots from Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Algeria, Spain, Qatar and Kuwait attended.

"We are all so grateful to our wonderful sponsors, DHL Aviation and Gulf Air, Royal Jordanian Airlines, Zain and Ayla Aviation Academy," said Yvonne Trueman, organiser of the event and ex-governor of the 99s.

"Without them, this trip would not have been possible.

"The Arabian Section of the 99s, which has 4,500 members worldwide, now has almost 40 members, which is not bad for women in an aviation-shy region."

The programme included a visit to the Dubai Air Show and a trip in a seaplane sponsored by Seawing and a helicopter flight was arranged and sponsored by Falcon Aviation. - TradeArabia News Service
