French retailer Carrefour names Bompard new CEO

PARIS, June 10, 2017

Carrefour, the second largest retailer in the world with operations in over 30 countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa, has appointed Alexandre Bompard, the chief of consumer electronics retailer Fnac Darty, as its new chairman and CEO.

Bompard will replace Georges Plassat as chairman and chief executive officer on July 18. The appointment comes following a eight-month-long search at the French retail giant.

As a result of the succession process that was initiated at the request of Plassat, the board of directors met last week to endorse Bompard's appointment.

The board lauded Plassat for his role in transforming the company and making it the top global retailer by returning to solid fundamentals on which to build its future growth.

On the new appointment, the board said Bompard, an industry veteran with several years of experience and a impressive career graph, was the perfect choice for the top job.

"Bompard has all the skills to succeed Plassat and continue to develop and transform Carrefour in all respects," it stated.-TradeArabia News Service
