Bahrain, Chinese firm ink e-commerce deal

The Bahrain Technology Companies Society (BTech) has signed an agreement with a Chinese Association to make Bahrain a center for development of e-commerce projects in the region and enhance its role as a global hub for trade and services.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of BTech's participation in the 17th edition of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) held last week in China.

This will enhance mutual co-operation between the two countries in the field of e-commerce, and the exchange of experiences between Chinese, Arab and Middle Eastern enterprises in this field.

As per the agreement, the Bahraini side will organise the first annual "conference in the field of e-commerce." This event is expected to attract thousands of those interested in developing e-commerce industry and achieve a positive impact on trade in general in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region.

According to the agreement, the Chinese side will come to Bahrain to attend the "Meet ICT" conference and "Bitex" exhibition to be held during January 2016, to be the official beginning of mutual cooperation and to bring Chinese expertise to Bahrain and the region.

The event's organizers will hold special events for networking between the Chinese delegations on the one hand and all the participants in the exhibition from local and international companies on the other hand.

Tomson Tang, the chairman of the Chinese Association for e-commerce, said: "We are very optimistic about the next steps under the agreement which will enable us to develop joint cooperation in the field of e-commerce on the one hand, and to engage with confidence to the information and communications technology sectir in the Bahraini market which has large potentials, close to the Saudi market, rich with human resources and has an up-to-date infrastructure.”

Abbas Hussain, the secretary of BTech board of directors, said that both associations will work initially to build executive steps of the framework of co-operation and exchange of experiences, in addition to strengthening communications between the Bahraini companies and Chinese counterparts in order to identify more opportunities for cooperation and investment.

"This comes as part of BTech quest for the advancement of Baheaini technology companies and strengthening their presence locally, regionally and even globally," he added.

BTech adviser Ahmed Al-Hujairi said through this agreement, it aims to put Bahrain on the world map for e-commerce, and to name it as a regional hub in this field by taking advantage of the Chinese experience.

"It is enough to know that the official statistics indicate that the e-commerce volume of China in the current year amounted to nearly $370 billion, and is expected to rise to $470 billion next year, and we will work very hard in the next stages to be proactive in Bahrain to take advantage of the great development witnessed by China in this field," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
