Jewellery show in Sharjah registers record visitor turnout

SHARJAH, April 13, 2015

More than 49,000 jewellery lovers visited the region’s leading Mideast Watch and Jewellery Show, which concluded recently in Sharjah, UAE.

The 38th edition of the five-day show featured nearly 500 exhibitors and brands from across the world, said a statement.

Saif Mohammed AL Midfa, chief executive officer, Expo Centre Sharjah, where the show was held, said: “Stable gold prices and lure of MidEast Watch & Jewellery Show got the better of the bad weather during the show. The visitor turnout was good on the first two days but the weather was so bad on the third day that it was impossible to venture out. However, the impressive footfalls on the following two days ensured overall good visitor turnout.

“Jewellery sales had been impressive in the first quarter of the year and retailers were expecting to maintain the sales momentum before the relatively slack summer period. Despite the weather playing truant, we are happy to note that the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show was able to live up to its expectations.”

The gold price was hovering near $1,200 per ounce for the entire week, providing a great opportunity for value as well as safe-haven buying for both jewellery lovers and investors, said the statement.

The show brought together leading jewellery chains and master jewellers from across the world offering some of the finest jewellery, new products, special deals, accessories and a plethora of buying and investment options, giving visitors plenty to choose from.

It also provided visitors with an international shopping experience, with exhibitors coming from countries like Bahrain, China, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Myanmar, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, the UAE and the US.

“Visitors had enough reasons to stay longer inside the halls given that there were plenty of attractions, right from the National Pavilions, to customisation of jewellery according to their tastes and a chance to win daily prizes,” added Midfa.

National Pavilions hosted five countries - India, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Italy - and featured exhibitors and exclusive creations and designs that are distinctive to those regions. - TradeArabia News Service
