E-commerce.....registers 300pc growth in UAE

UAE holds '55pc of total e-commerce market in GCC'

DUBAI, November 19, 2014

The e-commerce sector in the UAE has been currently valued at $2.5 billion, representing 55 per cent of the total e-commerce market in the GCC, according to leading solutions provider.

ShopGo, the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region’s leading e-commerce solutions provider, announced at a workshop in Dubai that e-commerce is booming in the Middle East, particularly in the UAE, where the market registered a 300 per cent growth between 2013 and 2014.

The workshop in Dubai discussed e-commerce opportunities in the Mena region and support entrepreneurs, start-ups and other aspiring e-commerce professionals through the challenges of creating and managing a shop online.

The workshop discussed every single step of the process, from creating the store online and promoting it to the basics of the logistics and payment methods.

The session offered attendees the opportunity to hear from successful businesses online and learn from their knowledge and experience, with case studies and managing stores best practices.

Mohanad Ghashim, CEO at ShopGo, said: “People are realising the potential of e-commerce and they are slowly gaining a better understanding of the needs of the business. We utilise these workshops to provide those with an interest in the industry and potential projects with the right information and tools required to put their great ideas into practice.

“Creating the right store is important, but promoting it is equally relevant to the business. One top tip we always give to our clients is to not forget to spare some of their budget for digital marketing, to boost awareness and sales on their online store.”

The workshop showed a live demo to present EZStore, an initiative by the region’s major e-commerce players ShopGo, Aramex, Google and PayPal to make it simpler for offline businesses to go online.

EZStore is an e-commerce solution that combines a customisable e-retail platform with discounts on payment gateways, logistics, and advertising.

“EZStore minimises the process and risks of creating an online shop. We have thought of every aspect of the business, providing a solution where the platform, shipping service, payment provider and digital marketing are offered to the merchant at a subsidised rate,” said Ghashim.

“Its easy set-up and management support provide the perfect solution of choice for SMEs and start-ups, which together make 93 per cent of our current client base, with 53 per cent and 40 per cent respectively,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
