Dubai, September 8, 2012
Dubai's ship building unit Drydocks World has held key discussions with Germany's Lürssen Werft, a leading designer and builder of yachts, naval ships and special vessels, to set up a joint venture yacht repair business in the emirate.
A high-level delegation led by Khamis Juma Buamim, the chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World held crucial talks in this regard with senior personnel of Lürssen Werft on the sidelines of SMM – Hamburg, the Dubai company said in a statement.
'The plan is form a joint set up with Lürssen Werft at the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) to co-operate in the yacht repair business,' revealed Juma Buamim.
DMC, he said, was already an established centre for yacht repair with the facility repairing over 60 yachts every year.
“We are delighted about the atmosphere and progress of the discussion with Lürssen, a world leading player in the yacht and specialized business. Our facility in DMC is well placed to become a key destination outside Europe for yacht owners for service and maintenance. This co-operation will further strengthen and provide definite direction to our aspiration to become the preferred choice for maintenance of yachts,” Juma Buamim remarked.
The two companies aim to work together on implementation of navy projects not limited to UAE’s naval fleet, by sharing scope of work and knowledge sharing on technical and project management aspects, the company chief noted.
'This co-operation will further strengthen and provide definite direction to our aspiration to become the preferred choice for maintenance of yachts,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
