Solo power

, July 7, 2017

Dubai Airports today welcomed at Dubai International the first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan, Shaesta Waiz, who is attempting to become the youngest woman to fly solo around the world to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and aviation education to the next generation. Beginning her solo flight from Daytona Beach International Airport on May 13, the 29-year old aviator is on a 90-day journey that will involve 30 stops on five continents, in 18 countries, covering a total of more than 25,000 miles. The initiative is led by Dreams Soar, a non-profit organisation founded by Shaesta in 2014, and supported by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the Airports Council International.
