Energy firms invited for Dubai Solar Show

DUBAI, July 23, 2019

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has invited companies working in solar energy to participate in the upcoming fourth Dubai Solar Show, the largest solar-technology exhibition in the region.

Dewa organises the Solar Show in conjunction with the 21st Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (Wetex), which takes place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 21 to 23.

"The solar energy sector has seen important developments recently, especially in the Arab Gulf region in general and the UAE in particular. This makes the Dubai Solar Show an ideal destination for specialised organisations, as well as for people working and interested in the sector,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa.

It is a key platform for the public and private sectors to make deals, build partnerships, learn about the latest technologies in the solar energy sector, and identify current and future projects in the region, market needs, and opportunities to take part in various solar energy projects. It is also an opportunity to meet experts and specialists from around the world to discuss the development of solar energy in the region to achieve sustainable development, and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” added Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 aims to transform Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy, by diversifying the energy mix and supplying 75% of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2050. Meeting the clean energy objectives requires a capacity of 42,000 megawatts (MW) of clean and renewable energy by 2050.

“Dubai Solar Show offers exclusive benefits to participants, such as free registration for companies and products at Dewa, letters of recommendation for products participating in the exhibition, and exclusive field visits to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. Organising the show in conjunction with Wetex 2019 and the World Green Economy Summit, is an opportunity to reach thousands of exhibitors, participants, officials, and decision makers in the UAE and the region, and expand business opportunities and projects in the renewable energy sectors,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, executive vice president of Business Support and Human Resources and Chairperson of the Sales, Logistics and Sponsorship Committees at Wetex.

At its stand, Dewa will showcase its efforts in research, development, and innovation in the field of solar energy and its major solar projects. The most prominent of these projects is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the independent power project (IPP) model.

It will have a capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030 with investments of Dh50 billion ($13.6 billion). Dewa will also highlight the Shams Dubai initiative that encourages building owners to install photovoltaic solar systems to generate electricity and connect them to Dewa’s grid. The initiative has been a great success. So far, more than 1,300 solar systems have been connected to Dewa’s grid with a total capacity of more than 100MW. – TradeArabia News Service
