Emirates Water and Electricity Company names new CEO
ABU DHABI, June 26, 2019
Emirates Water and Electricity Company {(formerly Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (Adwec)} has appointed Othman Al Ali as its new Chief Executive Officer.
An industry veteran with almost two decades of experience in both private and public sectors, Al Ali
comes from Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), where he was the chief financial officer.
EWEC, a leading company in the coordination of planning, purchasing and providing of power and water across the UAE.
Throughout his career, Al Ali has been the driving force behind several successful restructures and transformations that improved efficiency and strengthened performance, including initiatives to privatise the utilities sector.
He has held various positions in the utilities and banking industries across a number of federal government entities.
Lauding the appointment, Chairman Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi said: "Al Ali’s extensive previous industry experience leading transformations will be fundamental in pushing the business forward and supporting our broader strategic development."
"We look forward to working together to achieve higher efficiency and enhanced performance in the utilities sector," he stated.
On his new role, Al Ali said: "It is with great honour that I take on a leadership role with such an important player in the UAE energy sector as it continues to diversify its energy mix. The investment case for sustainable power generation and water production has never been stronger."
"I look forward to strengthening our national and international partnerships to reliably deliver power and water, while ensuring the efficient utilisation of the country’s natural resources," he added.
EWEC is responsible for purchasing, selling, planning, organising and managing supply and demand and trade of power and water in Abu Dhabi and beyond by identifying opportunities for the development of power and water generation facilities, with a focus on sustainability and renewable technology.-TradeArabia News Service
