Bahrain launches vital Seef-Prince Salman City power line

MANAMA, June 17, 2019

Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (Ewa) has announced the launch of a 12-km-long vital 220 kV power line linking the Seef and Prince Salman City districts.

This comes as part of the kingdom's ambitious BD473 million ($1.24 billion) power infrastructure development plan which will see 15 220 kV substations and 48 66 kV substations being set up along with high-voltage cables across the country, said a statement from Ewa.

With the launch of this power line, the transmission of power between Bahrain and the Gulf countries is easier and more reliable at the full 1,200 MW capacity, it stated.

Ewa CEO Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, after inaugurating the power line, said it was the main feeder for the Prince Salman City, increasing the reliability and safety of the electrical network.

This, he stated, contributes to providing power to the northern province in general and Prince Salman City in particular. It also helps provide private developers’ projects with the required reliable source of energy.

Shaikh Nawaf said the 220 kV line was of exceptional and vital importance in securing the requirements of the electrical connection between the power network in Bahrain and the GCC electrical grid in relation to the exchange of electrical energy, especially in emergency situations, and as an important factor in enhancing the reliability of Bahrain’s electrical grid.

ALS Korea manufactured and supplied electrical cables and installed them along with several Bahraini contracting companies, while the implementation of this package was supervised by the Irish International Electric Company.-TradeArabia News Service
