ABB unveils latest digitalisation tech at Wetex

DUBAI, October 23, 2018

ABB, a pioneering technology leader, is showcasing its latest technologies with a key focus on ‘enabling a digital grid’ at the ongoing Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2018) in Dubai, UAE.

During the four-day event, ABB will introduce YuMi, the world’s first truly collaborative dual-arm robot, and the TXplore, its unique submersible transformer inspection robot service solution to the Middle East market.

The global technology giant pointed out that YuMi had changed the way industry thinks about assembly automation with its inherent safety and functional versatility, while TXplore, equipped with high-definition cameras that provide photographs and video, can be remotely controlled enabling real-time customer inspections without physical presence.

The innovative ‘robot diver’ allows the transformer tank to be inspected without removing the oil and eliminates the need to place a human inspector at risk or exposing the transformer’s internal structure to external contaminants, it said.

According to ABB, digital substations, a central element of next-generation grids will be another key focus area, where fibre-optic cables replace copper, maximising efficiency, reliability and safety, while reducing cost, risk and environmental impact.

Power quality, grid integration and transmission solutions like HVDC and Facts will also be demonstrated alongside gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), a technology ABB pioneered 50 years ago, it stated.

ABB will also demonstrate control and automation technologies, which are part of ABB Ability, the Swiss industrial major's digital offering.

Solutions on display include ABB Ability Symphony Plus, ABB Ability Network Manager and ABB Ability Ellipse, which combines asset lifecycle management solution that enables electric power utilities to optimise asset utilisation, drive down maintenance costs and reduce equipment failures and system outages.

Dr Mostafa AlGuezeri, managing director for ABB, UAE and Oversight Countries, said: "Our ABB Ability based technologies being showcased at the event provide innovative solutions to enhance grid reliability across the power value chain and enable millions of consumers to receive quality power supplies.”

“They help to optimise operating costs and enable our customers to manage their assets more efficiently,” he noted.

In addition to the exhibits on display, there will be several ABB experts presenting papers, making presentations and interacting with customers, he added. – TradeArabia News Service
